Bill Elliott grew up near Dawsonville, Georgia. According to his autobiography, many generations of Elliott grew up there. According to his autobiography, William Clyde Elliott was the name of two families. He is the youngest of three children. According to his autobiography, his father George was a lumber company and loved racing. Later he created a speed shop where the brothers Bill Ernie (born 1947) and Dan (born 1951). His father was a Ford man and later created a dealer Ford and there were none at all.
Bill Elliott has a daughter, Starr, and a son, Chase. Chase Elliott now has a flourishing career.
NASCAR Race
Early career
Elliott made his first Winston Cup Series start at Rockingham in 1976, qualifying 34th in a field of 36 cars. Elliott only lasted 32 laps that day before the oil pump failed in his Ford Torino, which was worth $ 640. Elliott worked for five years in the Winston Cup Series without corporate sponsorship, and on the road showed glimpses that they could compete with established veterans of the sport. In mid-1977, bought a Mercury Montego Elliott Bobby Allison after its separation from Penske Racing to replace the lower Torino, and the change paid off. He soon won his first top 10 in the South 500 (10 th), and its first top-5 in the final 2 years later in the same race, finishing second winner of the race (and childhood hero Elliott) David Pearson.
With Melling Racing
In the fall of 1980, Elliott won his first major sponsor in the form of $ 500 from Harry Melling of Melling Racing in the 1980 National 500 at Charlotte. Melling extend his contract and gave the team enough sponsorship to run a 12-race program in 1981. After a 1981 season that consisted of a top-5 and seven top-10 finishes in 13 races, including the team's first pole in the CRC Chemicals Rebel 500, Melling bought the team from the father of George Elliott on December 1, 1981. In 1983, Elliott won his first Winston Cup win in the Winston Western 500 at Riverside in the final race of the 1983 season. Gained full sponsorship from Coors in 1984 to the tune of $ 400,000 and won three races, four poles and finished third in the championship standings.
In 1985, Elliott won 11 victories and 11 poles in 28 races and also won the Winston first million dollars in the Southern 500 in Darlington. This earned him the nickname "Million Dollar Bill" and "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville." He won the Daytona 500, Winston 500 at Talladega (at that time was running at an average speed record of 186.288 km / h) and south of 500 to win the Winston million. This led him to become the first NASCAR driver to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Elliott finished second in the championship standings by 101 points, losing the Winston Cup Championship Darrell Waltrip after a string of poor finishes in the last quarter of the season.
In 1986, Elliott won two races, four poles and finished fourth in the championship standings. He also won the II The Winston, which was held in Atlanta, the only year the race was run in a Charlotte differently. He won six races in 1987, including his second Daytona 500, seven poles and finished second in the final scores. In The Winston is tangled with Dale Earnhardt in what is known as "The passage of the grass." However, Elliott's most lasting achievement that year was put 2 registers Nascar qualifying, which highlights today. At Daytona, set the NASCAR speed record with an average speed of 210,364 mph. He broke his own record at Talladega with a average speed of 212,809 mph, the previous record he set in 1986 was 209,383 mph. In both races, he used a Ford Thunderbird that contains an engine built by his brother Ernie. However, in Talladega, Bobby Allison was separated and was in the air in the catch fence, tearing away a large and injuring several fans. After this incident, NASCAR mandated the use of flange plates at Daytona and Talladega. As a result, Elliott speed records will likely never be broken. In 1988 Elliott won another six races, six poles and his only Winston Cup championship.
Following his championship season, Elliott broke his wrist in an accident during testing at Daytona and need help by Jody Ridley for several runs in the first part of the 1989 season. Elliott won two poles and three races and finished sixth in the championship. In 1990, Elliott won one race and two poles and finished fourth in the championship standings. In the race of 1990 in Atlanta, behind Elliott tire changer Mike Rich was killed when Ricky Rudd, lost control of his car, turn, and slammed the crew member between his car and Elliott. This led to NASCAR restrict the speed of cars on pit road. The year 1991 saw the change of sponsorship Elliott Coors Light beer and the familiar red in the car was replaced with blue. Elliott won once in the Pepsi 400 and won two poles and finished eleventh in the championship standings in his final season with the Mellings.
With Junior Johnson
1,994 cars
Elliott Melling left to join Junior Johnson and Associates in 1992. Elliott sponsor during his time with Johnson was Budweiser, ironic because its sponsor in Melling Racing was Bud rival Coors Brewery. In 1992, Elliott won five races (four in a row) and clusters of three, but like 1985 season that ended one second disappointing in the championship standings after blowing a big lead in the standings with a string of late poor season finishes. He won the final of the season at his home track in Atlanta, but lost the championship by 10 points to Alan Kulwicki. The difference was that Kulwicki won the 5 bonus points for leading the most laps in the race. Kulwicki led one more lap (103 vs. 102) Elliott. The difference of 10 points was the difference in point changed close to NASCAR Chase for the Cup points format 12 years later.
Elliott was winless in 1993 and finished eighth in the standings. He scored only one victory this season following in the South 1994 500, while finishing 10th in the championship standings. After his victory Darlington Elliott announced that starting your own team with sponsorship from McDonald's in 1995.
As an independent driver and Evernham Motorsports
1997 racecar
After leaving Johnson team, Elliott sent its own team of Winston Cup races from 1995 to 2000. Elliott could not win a race during this time, although achieved twice in the top ten in the championship standings, with eighth place finishes in 1995 and 1997. In 1996, Elliott broke his leg in an accident at Talladega and missed seven races of the season. Elliott sold his team to Ray Evernham in 2000 and began driving the # 9 Dodge Dealers / UAW Dodge Intrepid in the year next. The team found success in his first race in the # 9 Dodge, and Elliott won the pole for the 2001 Daytona 500 and finished in the top 5, bringing home 5 th place finish, although the race will always be remembered for the death of fan favorite Dale Earnhardt. Bill finished his first season with Ray Evernham Racing with two poles, five top 5 and nine top-10 finishes and a win in the season ending Pennzoil Freedom 400 at Homestead from the pole. This was his first victory in more than seven years. He finished 15th in the final standings. In 2002 he won four poles and went to victory twice. His victories included the Pennsylvania 500, and a week later a dominant landslide victory that year in Indianapolis 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Finished 13th in the final standings. His last victory, in that became his full time last season was in 2003 at Rockingham. A week later, Elliott came within a lap to win his last race as full-time pilot (which would have been the only driver to retire to do so) in the 2003 Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Elliott led 189 of 267 laps and was on its way to victory, but a cut tire on the final lap gave the win to Bobby Labonte. He still finished the race and maintained his ninth position in the classification end points, his best result since finishing eight out in the 1997 standings. A few weeks later, Elliott announced he would leave the car No. 9 of Kasey Kahne and switch to a time schedule for conducting R & D car for Evernham.
Semi-retirement
In 2004, Elliott led the # 91 Evernham Dodge Intrepid in three acts (along with the Budweiser Shootout) and also drove the # 98 Dodge Intrepid in the event other issues of sponsorship from Coca-Cola (sponsor of Elliott) and Pepsi (Sponsor Evernham). Elliott was listed as the owner of the # 98 but Evernham rented the car with him. Although only made six starts during his first season part-time, he managed to have some success that included a ninth place in Indianapolis and the second and third place qualifying effort at Texas California, respectively.
In 2005, Elliott continued to work part-time driving, including driving the # 39 Coors Dodge Charger (in a paint scheme reminiscent of 1987 to the Coors Light Ford) for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Budweiser Shootout and the # 91 Evernham Dodge various events. Although he made three more starts that season earlier, had not the same amount of success. He managed to get a finished eleventh and tenth place qualifying effort in Michigan, along with a ninth place qualifying effort in Texas. He also competed in selected NASCAR Busch Series events for Rusty Wallace and led the # 6 Dodge Unilever Charger for Evernham Busch Series in Memphis, which held the 40 th Anniversary A Charlie Brown Christmas.
For the 2006 season, said in 2005 the owners to # 91 team went to the new team's No. 10 Evernham and driver Scott Riggs and the team of 91 was discontinuted. On January 4, 2006, Elliott announced that the pilot of # 36 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for MB2 Motorsports in the 2006 Daytona Speedweeks events. This included the Budweiser Shootout, the Gatorade Duel, and the Daytona 500, Elliott had not competed since 2003. On March 17, 2006, it was announced that Elliott would take the # 00 Burger King Chevrolet Michael Waltrip Racing in five Nextel Cup events including Chicago, New Hampshire, Indianapolis, California and Homestead. On August 8, 2006, Evernham Motorsports announced that Elliott would return to the organization of the race at Watkins Glen drive the No. 19 Dodge driven by Jeremy Mayfield earlier. The team fell from the top-35 in owners points after Indianapolis, leading to the activation of Mayfield and Evernham is that Elliott would guarantee a starting point in the field for being a champion of the past. However, since the switch controller was made after the registration deadline, NASCAR, Elliott said he was not eligible for interim champion past. Kansas for the race, Elliott was associated with R & J Racing to drive the No. 37 Dodge. Elliott finished a season high 16 in the Banquet 400 in Kansas, but did not qualify for the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte two weeks later. Elliott was scheduled for Team Red Bull at the entrance to Atlanta and Texas, but AJ Allmendinger drove the car in place (although not qualify for either race.) Once Elliott drove the # 37 Dodge in Atlanta, marking the 30 th anniversary of Elliott driving in his hometown track.
Elliott in the Wood Brothers car in 2007
Elliott attempt to qualify for the Daytona 2007 500, but not to race in the # 37.
Later that season, signed with Elliott driving the # 21 Wood Brothers Racing in 2007, partly due to his championship provisional, which guarantees from the race. Since co-champion Dale Jarrett had used all their guaranteed starts in his Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing, Elliott was the only champion eligible for the provisional agenda is not guaranteed a place to be in the top 35 in owner points. His first race for the team was the Coca Cola 600 in Charlotte, who qualified without one of its six provisional. He led the race at a time until he was involved in a car accident around lap 200. In Michigan, Elliott gave the team a much needed finishing No. 11, and remained in the car until the fall race at Richmond. The car fell off the 35 again, but in Bristol returned to top 35 in points. Ken Schrader returned to the 21 # replace Elliott in a test session at Talladega Superspeedway because the team is back in the first 35 points in particular. He returned to the final four races after the 21 was cut out ofof the top-35 a again.
On September 23, 2007, in an interview with Charlotte Observer Len Wood's co-owner of the 21 #, Elliott said in 2008 would have its own sponsor and share your trip with Jon Wood and Marcos Ambrose. Bill Elliott returned to the 21 # to try to get the car back in the Top 35 points at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
2008 Cup cars at Daytona
Elliott has qualified for ten races this season, with a best finish of 20 at the Sunoco Presents: The American Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. Hours of Daytona Bill announced that 2008 will be his last season as a Sprint Cup driver. However, in Kansas, in an interview on NASCAR Raceday, Bill is asked about his career, Bill said "We'll be at Lowes, and some more races. Then see how things go." bill in 2008, the fifth best starts at Bristol and Kansas 7. His best result was 12th at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In 2009, Elliott ran 12 races in the # 21 Motorcraft Ford for Brothers wood, including the Daytona 500. His best result in 2009 was 15 th place at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Memorial Day May 25, 2009, Elliott became the seventh member of "Club 800", with his 800th career Sprint Cup start at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

In 1990, Konami released the game first officially licensed NASCAR Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge for MS-DOS. The game was released for the NES and Amiga in 1991 and Bill Elliott's NASCAR Fast Tracks was released for the Game Boy, at the same time.
Elliott continued to appear in most games NASCAR ([)) made up the launch of EA Sports NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup in 2004, when he began his semi-retirement. The following year he was seen in several screen screenshots and videos of EA Sports NASCAR '06: Full Control team driving the # 91 Stanley Tools Dodge. However, it was removed from the game before launch and # 91 was removed from the custom function NEXTEL Cup garage. Ironically, after teammate Elliott, Jeremy Mayfield was also absent from NASCAR 2005 (Although it reappeared in NASCAR 06) and no official explanation was given for the absence of Elliott in 2006. Jeremy Mayfield was originally going to be the cover of NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup, but that was given to Kevin Harvick, refused to be in the game. Unlike NASCAR Elliott 06, Mayfield had not seen any pictures or videos NASCAR 2005. However, Kasey Kahne was presented at the # 9 Evernham Dodge, and Mayfield and the # 19 Evernham Dodge had been submitted in previous NASCAR games. Furthermore, Bill is not one of the drivers of the 21 # in 09 NASCAR Sprint Cup, Marcos Ambrose and Jon Wood are the drivers.
