So he starts to creep up on us, the next-generation pony car wars. For many fans of the late 60 ponycars home, this is like a dream come reality. In a year or so streets will be flooded with the new Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Now, I was too young to be part of the first pony car wars so can not give a firsthand account of what happened. But what I can do is tell what happened next: Autos sucked.

Now do not get me wrong there were some bright spots (the 1970-1981 Camaro / Firebird), some lows (Mustang II King Kobra? Com'on!), And some things that the mind try to forget (God Why !?!). But what if I wanted a pony, not the mobile waste being produced in that time? Let bring you back to the mid-1980s. I was in high school and nowhere to buy a car economically. I had always wanted a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda, but it was terribly expensive to buy a decent (like $ 5000. Today you can buy the shell) and wanted to suffer the humiliation of buying one of the 'weak' 1972-1974 cars? For a thousand dollars you can buy the 1974 Barracuda and pretend you're in a big block Mopar. Bleh, it felt like cheating. However, the extraction steps have an average of more than $ 10,000 on eBay! In any case, after a few years gave me a job and for my senior year in high school was willing to buy a pony.

At that time I was beginning to feel the late 60's Mustang Fastbacks so I kept that option in mind. Nope. They are different, but for my taste. So I started shopping around for my Barracuda, a "Fixer-upper" I could afford to buy and drive at the same time. A friend found a weekend with the 1971 Cuda trunk '383 virtually disappeared and the need for Full restoration for $ 1,500, but I thought it was too much work. So I ended up buying a 1969 Coronet 383 that was difficult but feasible, and decided he had to buy my pony a bit more down the road.

Fast forward much later down the road, and prices have skyrocketed in just about every pony made by the Big 3. How about a nice weekend near Barracuda 1974 318 to $ 5000? Ha No. What about the 1960 Mustang Fastbacks, who made hundreds of thousands of them? Sure, but if you want all the options as an engine and the ground, which will cost $ 15,000, if you're lucky. But the good news is late 60's Camaro has been stabilized prices, is approximately $ 15,000 to $ 20,000, but I'm not in them. But what if you want something to drive every day, with air conditioning and a factory warranty, and air bags? Well, the 3 Big finally (read: about damn time) answered our prayers, and offer We retro-horses at a price you can afford. Now that is interesting in itself, but it will be even better when all three cars are on the road, at the same time. Let put it this way, you can have two of the most educated, docile, friendly 40-something years in the world of driving cars, but when a Mustang and Camaro are at a stoplight, one of those cars is going to lose a tooth. It is not the fault of the owners.

You can be sure most of them bought cars because they liked or owned one of the original, or maybe they just want to be fashionable. No. ... coaches know. I have a 2005 Mustang with the V6. I know it's only a driver Nice and not a murderer on the pavement. Every time a kid gets up next to me in a ramshackle Cavalier or a brilliant four-door Civic, or even an Aztek for God's sake, Suddenly, It's on! There is rev engines and try to break the power (almost killing the poor) and then released when the light turns green. All the time we just left behind in amazement thinking, "Why are you trying to blow up the engine of his car through the hood?" My Mustang is laughing at me because she knows she is the one that collects the fight. If you think I'm exaggerating then see the first time you see one of the new Dodge Challenger R / T and the Camaro SS 'meeting in a light. Me? I'm going to enjoy the peace and solidarity in its entirety. As far as never being able to pay my Cuda 1971 ', which is fine, maybe there will be a 2011.
