1967 Dodge Dart
Do I need to upgrade my front and rear suspension if I put a box of 392 engine in my Dodge Hemi Dart?
I have a Dodge Dart 1967 with a Satalite 1970 Plymouth 318 engine in it with a Ford 9 inch rear. Do I need to update my system front and rear suspension due to the added wheight hemisphere? Aside from the obvious, such as improving new motor mounts, better brakes ect .. What other changes I need to do and what kind of transmission is the one you recommended me achieve?
AH ... 392 were made in the 50s. Do not you mean a 426? The 392 and 354 in the 50 boat anchor is better adapted to Top Fuelers at the time, why not try stroked to 440? .. unless you go for the "image" of a Hemi. All parts are available through Chrysler performance, pick up a copy of their performance in the ant manual Mopar distributor. In late 60 's, Darts came with 426's and 383 (400) and 440's. I any case .. not a bad exchange, you can use the factory parts ... Ford 9 in rearend will fine.If it was mine, I would go with a TorqueFlite / HD (727), by a large block, and unless you like to replace his rear tires much, low 3 series of gears in the rearend. Even with headlines is an "exchange of Voltage, intelligent engine bay ... a good store (performance), must be able to effect the exchange in a day couple ... GOOD LUCK! ALSO !...... room not much for the "enormous" in the Dart tires, you probably can "break" a set of 15 "tires on 15X7 wheels. .. it's tight! The Hemis new computer stuff too so I recommend them unless you are a wiz wiring .... Crate 426 are "pricy !!!!"
